VALLEY NEIGHBORS FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 2,2001 13V SPORTS For hungry fisherman, here are some good spots I very good fisherman must know One of where the to eat. major advantages of fishing in the Southeast is learning where the best places to eat are. During the past two decades I have traveled from Virginia to Louisiana and into Florida fishing. Most fishermen don't cook while Bob they are on the road, so they hunt best place to eat after the day is done. Sometimes you are lucky and hit it the first time, but in some you may have to make several trips before you find the best places.
Glendy FISHING I never go to Santee-Cooper lakes without eating at Danny Bell's Chefs Choice in Eutawville on S.C. 6. He's open only on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, but he serves the best steak you could want at a reasonable price. If I am fishing on Lake Moultrie near Bonneau Beach, I like to take a break at Evelyn's for lunch. All the home-cooked food vou can eat at reasonable prices If you are striper fishing at Roanoke Rapids, be sure to try Ralph's Barbeque.
It's all you can eat with fresh vegetables and the best dressing you ever tasted. Around Lexington, noted for its barbecue, I prefer Lexington Barbecue on the alternate Interstate 85. You may have to stand in line, but the wait is well worth it. In late February or March, if you are near Orlando, make a side trip to Plant City for strawberry shortcake or a strawberry milkshake. It's a full meal by it- Job Openings For information about these or other job opportunities, call for an appointment at the Catawba County Employment Security Commission office, (828) 466-5535, 8 a.m.

Well, I lucked up last week and found another very special place to eat on a trip to Taylorsville to visit an old friend. He suggested I try Sims Country Barbeque at Granite Falls.
Keith Sims said his barnlike, family-owned restaurant has been in operation for 22 years. The huge building seats more than 500 and features pork, chicken and beef barbecue prepared with old family recipes. It's all you can eat on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. The pork barbecue is chopped and moist with sauces ranging from warm to very hot. The slowcooked chicken is moist and tasty.
I didn't get to sample the beef because it isn't served Thursday nights. The barbecue is so good you don't want to fill up on slaw or beans or hushpuppies. Save all that room for the real thing. Sims has bluegrass bands on Friday and Saturday nights and packs the house with cloggers and square dancers. The restaurant is open all year.
